Abstract

HIV oznaĉava virus humane imunodeficijencije koji pripada porodici Retroviridiae. Nakon infekcije virusom HIV-a, kod zaražene se osoba za otprilike 10 godina razvije bolest, tj. AIDS. Od dijagnostiĉkih testova koriste se test ELISA i Western blot kao standardni testovi. U novije vrijeme sve širu primjenu imaju brzi testovi koji najĉešće koriste slinu. Njihova je najveća prednost nalaz koji je gotov za svega 20 minuta. Zaraženi HIV-om imaju karakteristiĉne oralne lezije u usnoj šupljini. Upravo zbog toga, stomatolog bi mogao biti jedan od prvih zdravstvenih radnika koji može posumnjati na bolest. Stomatološko lijeĉenje zaraženih HIV-om ne zahtijeva nikakve modifikacije u odnosu na zdravu populaciju. Rizik za profesionalnu transmisiju veoma je nizak i iznosi 0.3% nakon jednog ubodnog incidenta. Ako sluĉajno dođe do ubodnog incidenta, potrebno je što prije zapoĉeti s postekspozicijskom profilaksom, kako bi se sprijeĉila serokonverzija. Postekspozicijska profilaksa smanjuje rizik serokonverzije za 80%.

Abstract (english)

The acronym HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus which belongs to the family Retroviridiae. After being infected with HIV, it takes about 10 years for the infected person to develop AIDS. There are two standard diagnostic tests: ELISA and Western blot. In recent times there has been a wider use of rapid tests which commonly use saliva. Their biggest advantage is the fact that it only takes 20 minutes to get the results. Patients with HIV have specific oral lesions in the oral cavity. Because of this, the dentist could be one of the first health care workers to suspect the disease. Dental treatment of HIV positive people does not require any modification relative to a healthy population. The risk of occupational transmission is very low, 0.3% after the injection incident. If the injection incident happens, it is necessary to start with the post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent seroconversion. Post-exposure prophylaxis reduces the risk of seroconversion by 80%.
