Abstract

Nakon završetka ortodontske terapije zubi su skloni vraćanju u prvobitni položaj. Korekcija različitih malokluzija u idealnom bi slučaju nakon terapije trebala ostati stabilna. Ortodonti pokušavaju spriječiti vraćanje zubi korištenjem različitih postupaka retencije. Retencijski postupci mogu uključivati korištenje mobilnih retencijskih naprava, fiksnih naprava zalijepljenih na lingvalnim odnosno palatinalnim plohama zubi (fiksni retaineri), ili se u svrhu retencije koriste različiti nemehanički postupci. Nemehanički postupci mijenjaju oblik kontakata među zubima ili uključuju postupak uklanjanja spoja između zubnoga mesa (gingive) i vrata zuba. Glavni razlozi recidiva nakon ortodontske terapije uključuju elastičnost gingivnih vlakana, pritisak obraza, usana i jezika i rast čeljusti. Međutim, tijekom retencijskog razdoblja parodontni ligament, alveolarna kost i meka tkiva reorganiziraju se u novome položaju te pridonose stabilnosti i smanjenju nastanka recidiva.

Abstract (english)

Once people finish their orthodontic therapy the teeth tend to get crooked again. Ideally, the correction of different malocclusion should remain stable after the therapy. Orthodontists try to prevent teeth relapse by using different retention procedures. Retention procedures can include wearing removable retainers, fixed retainers which are bonded on lingual or palatal side of the teeth, or for the purpose of retention can be used non-mechanical procedures. Adjunctive procedures either change the shape of the contact between teeth or involve a very small procedure to cut the connection between the gum and the neck of the tooth. The main causes of relapse after orthodontic therapy include gingival fibrous elongation, the pressure of cheeks, lips and tongue, and jaw growth. However, during the retention period, the periodontal ligament, alveolar bone and soft tissue reorganize in a new position and contribute to stability and reduce recurrence.
