Abstract

Radioterapija je jedna od metoda liječenja zloćudnih tumora glave i vrata. Djeluje na principu ionizirajućeg zračenja koje uzrokuje smrt brzodijelećih stanica. Zračenje, osim na brzodijeleće stanice tumora, djeluje i na zdrava brzoobnavljajuća tkiva, pa se tako u većine pacijenata javljaju i brojne nuspojave u usnoj šupljini. Nuspojave možemo podijeliti na akutne i kronične. U akutne nuspojave koje se javljaju tijekom radioterapije ubrajamo oralni mukozitis, kserostomiju i disgeuziju. Kronične nuspojave koje se javljaju nakon završetka zračenja uključuju radijacijski karijes, osteoradionekrozu i trizmus. U prevenciji i liječenju nuspojava veliki značaj ima stomatološka skrb pacijenta prije, tijekom i nakon radioterapije. Tijekom tih razdoblja redovite stomatološke kontrole, motivacija i edukacija pacijenata značajno utječu na neometano i kontinuirano provođenje terapije osnovne bolesti.

Abstract (english)

Radiotherapy is one of the methods of treatment of malignant tumors in the head and neck area. It works on the principle of ionizing radiation, which causes the death of rapidly dividing cells. In addition to the rapidly dividing tumor cells, the radiation also affects healthy, rapidly regenerating tissue, so most patients experience numerous side effects in the oral cavity. The side effects can be divided into acute and chronic. Acute side effects that occur during radiotherapy include oral mucositis, xerostomia, and dysgeusia. Chronic side effects that occur after the end of radiation include radiation caries, osteoradionecrosis, and trismus. Dental care of the patient before, during and after radiotherapy is of great importance in the prevention and treatment of side effects. During these periods, regular dental check-ups as well as patient motivation and education have a significant impact on the uninterrupted and continuous implementation of therapy for the underlying disease.
