Abstract

Helicobacter pylori vrlo je česti patogen koji je u stanju mijenjati fiziologiju te oslabiti imunosni sustav kako bi perzistirao doživotno u tijelu domaćina. Smatra se primarnim uzrokom gastričnih infekcija koje dovode do peptičnog ulkusa i karcinoma želuca. U oralnoj šupljini perzistira u dentalnom plaku, slini te se povezuje s patološkim stanjima kao što su parodontitis, rekurentni aftozni stomatitis, oralni karcinom, sindrom „pekućih“ usta i halitoza. Postoje neinvazivni i invazivni testovi za dijagnostiku H. pylori. S obzirom na kancerogeni i ulkusni potencijal H. pylori, zaraženim se bolesnicima preporuča eradikacija bakterije antibioticima. Problem predstavljaju sve češće rezistencije na antibiotike.

Abstract (english)

Helicobacter pylori is a very common pathogen which is able to alter the physiology and subvert the immune response in order to permanently persist in the host's body. It is considered to be the primary cause of gastric infections which lead to peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. Within the oral cavity, it persists in dental plaque, saliva and it is associated with pathological conditions such as periodontitis, recurrent aphthosus stomatitis, oral cancer, burning mouth syndrome and halitosis. There are noninvasive and invasive tests for the detection of H. pylori. Considering the carcinogenic and ulcerative potential of H. pyori, it is recommended to eradicate the bacteria with antibiotics. The problem is increased antibiotic resistance.
