Abstract

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) je najčešći oblik dispneje uslijed koje dolazi do djelomične ili potpune opstrukcije gornjeg dišnog puta tijekom sna, uz otežani inspirij. Najčešće zahvaća muške osobe srednje životne dobi. OSA je multifaktorna bolest, na koju utječe niz čimbenika: spol, dob, pretilost, nasljeđe te anatomske abnormalnosti donjeg dijela lica. Glasno hrkanje, nemirni snovi, nedostatak zraka i osjećaj gušenja tijekom spavanja glavni su simptomi prepoznavanja apneje koju je uz postavljanje pravilne dijagnoze moguće liječiti na više načina. Cilj je terapije održati dišne puteve otvorenim tijekom noći, što poboljšava san, oksigenaciju i smanjuje pospanost tijekom dana. CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) se zbog svoje velike efikasnosti
godinama pokazuje prvim izborom u liječenju apneje. Kirurškim tretmanima nije moguće u potpunosti riješiti problem dispneje. Terapija ortodontskim napravama zbog niza svojih prednosti sve se češće koristi prvenstveno u riješavanju problema hrkanja. Pravilnim repozicioniranjem čeljusti i jezika poboljšavaju se uvjeti i kvaliteta sna. Ranom dijagnozom i dobro odabranom terapijom spriječavaju se po život opasne posljedice OSA.

Abstract (english)

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common type of apnea in which a person involuntarily stops breathing, either partially or completely many times during sleep but still tries to get some air. The largest affected group is the middle age man population. OSA is the multifactor disease, which affected by a number of different factors, such as: gender, age, obesity, inheritance and anatomy abnormalities of the lower part of the face. Loud snoring, restless sleep, feelings of choking or shortness of breath at night are the most common symptoms in patients with OSA. With the proper diagnosis can be treated in many ways. The goal is to keep airway open during sleep, leading to improved sleep, better oxygenation, and enhanced daytime alertness. CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) because its effectiveness appears to be the first and the best choice in treatment of OSA. Treatment can not be completely accomplished with surgery. Orthodontic appliances therapy has several advantages over other forms of therapy in treating snoring. By right repositioning of the lower jaw and tongue the quality of the sleep rises. Early diagnosis and the good chosen therapy can prevent the deadly consequences of OSA.
