Abstract

Osobe starije od 65 godina zbog fizioloških promjena u organizmu, kroničnih bolesti, uzimanja lijekova, poteškoća u kretanju i otežanoj komunikaciji zahtijevaju poseban pristup doktora dentalne medicine. Prije stomatološkog liječenja starijih pacijenata potrebno je proučiti medicinsku i stomatološku anamnezu, ako je potrebno, uputiti pacijenta na dodatnu laboratorijsku dijagnostiku, analizirati rendgenske snimke, obaviti temeljit klinički pregled usne šupljine, razgovarati s pacijentom o njegovu dentalno medicinskom problemu i očekivanjima te iznijeti pacijentu plan terapije. Kardiovaskularne bolesti, bubrežno zatajenje, neoplazme, osteoporoza, autoimune bolesti i druge bolesti mogu utjecati na ishod oralnokirurškog zahvata te je doktor dentalne medicine dužan pratiti najnovije smjernice stručnih društava i komunicirati sa specijalistom koji liječi osnovnu bolest pacijenta kako bi se oralnokirurški zahvat mogao izvesti bez komplikacija.

Abstract (english)

Due to the physiological changes in their organism, chronic diseases, taking medication, mobility difficulties and communication problems, patients above 65 years of age require a special approach by their dentist. Before any dental treatment of geriatric patients, it is necessary to study their medical and dental history, establish whether it is necessary to have the patient undergo additional laboratory diagnosis, whether it is required to analyse X-ray images, perform a thorough clinical examination of their oral cavity, talk to the patient about their dental problem and expectations, and present them with the treatment plan. Cardiovascular diseases, renal failure, neoplasms, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases and other
diseases can have an impact on the outcome of the oral surgery procedure. In addition, a dentist is required to be up to date with the latest guidelines of professional associations, and to communicate with a specialist treating the underlying condition of the patient in order for the oral surgery procedure to be performed without any complications.
