Abstract

Zlostavljanje djece vrlo je raširen javnozdravstveni problem. U Hrvatskoj se o ovom problemu vrlo malo zna i govori. Stomatolozi, kao i ostali zdravstveni radnici, imaju moralnu i pravnu obvezu prijaviti sumnju na zlostavljanje. Ovaj rad govori o definiciji i vrstama zlostavljanja s posebnim naglaskom na dentalno zanemarivanje djeteta. Opisuje kako prepoznati, dokumentirati i prijaviti zlostavljanje djeteta. Iznosi rezultate mnogih istraživanja o čimbenicima rizika, učestalosti i vrstama ozljeda te promjenama u ponašanju djeteta koje moraju pobuditi sumnju na zlostavljanje. Govori o stavovima i brojnim razlozima koji sprečavaju stomatologe da preuzmu aktivnu ulogu i uključe se u zaštitu djeteta te tako spriječe psihičke i fizičke posljedice zlostavljanja, a možda i njegovu smrt. U slučaju sumnje na zlostavljanje, simptome je potrebno vrlo detaljno dokumentirati i prijaviti centru za socijalnu skrb ili policiji koja će ispitati slučaj i zaštititi dijete.

Abstract (english)

Child abuse is a largely widespread public health issue. In Croatia, few are aware of and deal with the issue. Dentists and other health care professionals have moral and legal responsibility to report any suspicion of abuse.This paper focuses on the definition and types of abuse, with a particular emphasis on dental neglect in children. A description is given how to recognise, document and report child abuse. Results of a number of research studies on risk factors, frequency and types of injuries are presented, as well as on changes in children's behaviour that must arouse suspicion of abuse. The paper further deals with attitudes and numerous reasons, which prevent dentists to take over an active role and join child protection, and thus to prevent psychic and physical consequences of abuse, perhaps even death. In case of suspicion of abuse, symptoms should be documented in detail and reported to a centre of social welfare or the police, which will examine the case and protect the child.
